Is Temporary Email Safe? Access and Message Security

InboxFlick separates the public receiving address from the private browser credential and sanitizes message content before display. These controls reduce risk, but temporary email is not appropriate for secrets or important accounts.

Address and reading credential are separate

Anyone can send mail to a temporary address, but opening the inbox through InboxFlick also requires its access token. The token is delivered in a Secure, HttpOnly cookie and only a one-way hash is stored with the mailbox record.

Sanitized message display

Incoming HTML is treated as untrusted. Scripts, forms, and remote tracking resources are removed before the safe body is displayed in a sandboxed frame. This limits common active-content and tracking risks but cannot make a malicious message trustworthy.

No attachment downloads

InboxFlick does not store or expose message attachments in the current version. This reduces the chance of downloading executable or deceptive files, while still allowing parsable text or sanitized HTML to be read.

Expiry reduces the exposure window

A short active lifetime limits how long the browser can read the inbox and how long the address remains useful. Manual destruction ends access earlier. Cleanup then deletes mailbox and message records instead of offering account recovery.

Abuse controls protect shared capacity

Mailbox creation and message intake are limited to reduce automated abuse and resource exhaustion. Requests and sender behavior may be rejected when they violate service limits or acceptable-use rules.

Your safest usage pattern

Use a private device, keep the tab open only as long as necessary, verify the sender before following links, never submit passwords or financial information by email, and use a permanent address whenever later recovery matters. If an account has become worth keeping, change its temporary email to a lasting address while you can still confirm the change.
